Little Garden
“How can I help kids get inspired to eat healthier through design?”
As a senior in Communication Design, I spent a whole semester working on addressing a specific topic and researchable question that's important to you. “How can I help kids get inspired to eat healthier through design?” After coming to a conclusion on the project's final form I came up with the name, Little Garden, attributing to the purpose, size and audience of the kit. At this point I sent out several different surveys to gardeners, parents, kindergarten teachers, TA’s, babysitters, a nanny, and a nutritionist. This process helped me the most in finalizing what would be in the gardening kit. Once I had this finalized my priority was to create the direction and recipe guide which ended up being the main piece in the project. Then I design the box and the seed packets. I wanted the designs to have a hand drawn element to go along with the idea that this is a hands on project as well as appealing to kids. I also wanted everything to be very easy to understand so I made the directions and recipes as simple as possible. I also made each seed packet a different color so there wouldn't be any confusion. Overall I learned so much from this project. Creating your own idea from scratch and turning it into something physical is so rewarding, you literally see your idea come to life.
